Message: "Azalea" - Behind the Name

I heard of a little one named Azalea the other day, and while I am familiar with it as a name, hearing it on an actual human gave it a little more weight for my consideration. I don't think I would use it, but do appreciate it somewhat. I was born in a city nicknamed "Azalea City." There's also a part of me that thinks it's a little too showy and on the wrong child, it could be a cross to bear. I do not like it as much as Zinnia (or Zenia). Opinions and combos?

In theory, I too like Azalea. But realistically I would never actually use it. I am not brave enough. LOL

I have it on my list, and I think it's a very lovely, fun, bubbly, but different, more modern flower name. My combo is Azalea Thessaly Wren.

My maternal grandmother's MN was Azalea. She wanted my mom to name me that after her, but my mom thought it was zany.

I wouldn't have minded being named Azalea, though. It sounds lively and a little offbeat to me...and if it turned out to be too much, it could shorten easily to Lea or Alea.

I'd guess it's showing up more nowadays because of Iggy Azalea.

I like Azalea. It definitely feels a bit showy but not in a tawdry way. I prefer Azalea to Zinnia or Dahlia although those are also nice names.
