John and Erica are a newlywed couple living in Melbourne, Australia. John (31) is originally from Perth where he was born to Australian father and Finnish mother. He has straight brown hair and hazel eyes, and works as a chef in one of the finest restaurants in the whole Australia. Erica was raised in Melbourne and works in a foodservice business. John decides it’s for the best if he and his children move back to Australia. So he returns back to his childhood city Perth, where his parents Roderick and Regina and sister Silvia promise take care of Phoebe, Adele and Jamie anytime when needed.
In Perth, John takes part in group therapy sessions for people suffering of PTSD after losing a loved one. There he gets acquainted with Shirley, whose partner died in a car accident. Shirley (31) was adopted from India to Australian parents: she has wavy black hair and hazel eyes, and makes a living as a singer/musician.

Without a permanent job Shirley feels frustrated and wants to do something useful and meaningful. After hearing her friend Karla’s suggestions she goes volunteering in Colombia, South America, for three weeks.

Shirley tries something new outside her career field: she opens her own bakery/cafeteria specialized in cupcakes and muffins.

Now it’s John’s turn to volunteer! His former workplace in London takes part in a charity event and invites John to join in. The restaurant opens its doors for ten lucky disabled children, whose biggest dream is to become a chef. John with other chefs show them the restaurant and its kitchen and together they prepare a special dinner.

Kiara the cockatiel passes away. Adele, who plays football, hurts her ankle in training and has to wear a cast for a while.

Shirley leaves the bakery business and decides to return back to music. Shirley and John have had some argues and disagreements lately, but they don’t want to break up yet. Shirley decides to take a break and moves for a year to Gambia, Africa, where Karla and her three other musician friends have lived for a couple of years.
