I'm a bit late to the party here, but one of my best friends named her son Dexter. He's 1 now and is so adorable. I thought it was a great choice for them- they met in their high school chemistry class, so science has always been a bit of an inside joke with them and they wanted a name for their son that had a nerdy, science-y feeling. Usually when I mention their baby Dexter to other people, most people say it reminds them of a dog's name, which I don't really understand. Sometimes my friend calls her son Dex, which I think is very cool sounding and a great balance to the "nerdy" feeling of the full name.

Dexter is great. It's quirky, cool and a bit "old man", which appeals to me. I never watched the show Dexter, so it doesn't bother me. I'd love to meet a baby Dexter, it would be a nice surprise.

I think of Dexters Laboratory before I think of the Showtime series, but I can't speak for everybody. I like Dexter for a dog or cat name.

I'm guessing he's between 4-6. I was surprised by the name but then chalked it up to hipster. I don't mind the name. It's not something I'd use but it's not terrible. I think Dexter's Laboratory before the serial killer.

IMO, it's nerdy but energetic and likable.

And I associate it with the 50s-60s, though it's about as popular now as it was then, so I'd call it mid-century mod.
