I don't think either of them works in today's world. I can sort of see Bridie as a very dated Irish nn for Bridget, and I can't see Birdie at all, or not with a straight face anyway.

I thought maybe Bridie would work in the US, 'cause the US is weird. I'm guessing it is an oldie in Ireland.Birdie just sounds too dumb? *sadface*

My goddaughter is known as Birdie or Bird in the family. It's so sweet and suits her down to the ground, but would be ridiculous as her 'real' name.

"Love" on Netflix has a Bertie... I thought it was Bertie until a few seconds ago. Hearing it on the show made it more namey for me.
