Savva and Ana got married last year after a two year engagement. Savva was deployed for a year in Kosovo, and then eight months in Afghanistan. He is currently a first lieutenant in the Czech Army. He is serving a six month home rotation before getting new orders. He and Ana seized the opportunity and were married in a no frills ceremony. Ana works at a high end bakery and is training to become a specialized pastry chef, though she currently makes a variety of baked goods. Savva and Ana live in a one bedroom apartment in a large Czech city.

Savva and Ana were eager to start a family, so they were so excited to find out that Ana was pregnant just four months after their wedding! They were surprised to find out they were having more than one baby and shocked to find out there were actually five! Although advised to reduce the number of fetuses, Savva and Ana elected to try and deliver all of them. Ana had a difficult pregnancy, and was on bedrest for seventeen weeks; however, she was able to carry the babies to 31 weeks, and their four boys and one girl were born without major difficulties. Eleven weeks later, all five babies were home. Savva and Ana have had a lot of help from friends, family, and neighbors, which has kept them sane during the care of their five newborns.

Havng five little infants and full time job was impossible for Ana. She and Savva made the decision that she'd look for a new job. She was able to find a part-time position as a pastry chef in a small boutique. She loves the hours and is able to spend a lot of time with the kids--who just celebrated their first birthdays!

Savva was given a medal this year after his actions during an eight week deployment. He was happy to receive recognition for his actions, but was more happy to get home and see his family--all of whom missed him greatly. Two months is a long time when you're only twenty months old.

After seeing rabbits in the pet store, Daniel and Alec began begging for one to have at home. Eventually, Savva and Ana gave in, getting the kids a large brown/white rabbit that Savva named Constantine. Of course, Constantine is a mouthful for three year olds, so the kids simply call him "Teeno".

Savva and Ana belong to a variety of support groups for parents of high-order multiples. When they found out that a set of quadruplets in Russia was up for adoption because their parents could no longer care for them, they decided to apply to adopt them. Knowing their chances of being selected were slim, they did it anyway. When they were selected to adopt the girls, Savva and Ana asked why they were chosen out of the other families--the answer, "You've already got experience with multiples." So, with nine children between the ages of 4 and 5, their house looks more like a zoo most days; however, the kids are enjoying playing and discovering life together.

All nine kids went to school for the first time this year, leaving Ana with a strangely empty feeling when they were all gone. This year too, media outlets got wind of the Sokolov's story. American news media was especially enamored by the story. Savva received an offer to travel to several large cities in the US with the family to provide interviews. Because their expenses would be paid, he and Ana agreed, thinking that this will probably be the closest they ever come to going on vacation with their large brood. The kids seemed to like the United States and experienced all of the wonders the country had to offer from New York to Los Angeles. However, at the end of six weeks, they were all glad to get back home and back into a routine.

This year, Ana decided to quit her job as a pastry chef and stay at home, mostly. She volunteers for a few local organizations and spends a lot of time at the kids' school. She figures that since nine of the first and second graders are hers anyway, she might as well be where they are.

This year, Ana's father passed away unexpectedly from lung cancer. She and Savva took all the kids to the funeral, despite their family's concerns that the kids would be too young to understand. Ana was very close to her father, and he often helped her mother watch the kids if Savva and Ana needed time alone together.

Contrary to their earlier fears, Savva and Ana have been able to save up some money for a short vacation. They took the kids to Spain this year and spent time at one of the beaches there. The kids had a blast and are already asking when they can go back!

Savva and Ana celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary this year by taking a special trip to Canada, just the two of them.
