[Opinions] Mara or Brenna?
Replies
Both sound bad in Swedish. A Mara is an evil spirits who rides your body during the night (yup, a nightmare) and Brenna sounds like bränna, to burn (something or someone). But if I lived in, let's say, England, I would choose Mara since I like Julie Bertagna's book series in which Mara is the heroine (Exodus, Zenith, Aurora).
Mara
It's got a lovely dark shine to it!

Mara.
Even though the meaning and the Biblical references have always deterred me from this name, it sounds pretty and is just so simple and sweet to look at.
While I like Brenna, all of the Brenna's I know have been very manly girls. Not in a "girls shouldn't be masculine" way, but in a "they are always complaining about how tall or hairy they are" way.
Anyway. It's far more a deterrent than Mara v Ruth.

It has a more attractive sound. Brenna sounds odd to me.
Although Brenna has fallen since it was most popular in the mid-1990s, it was never that popular even then, never higher than #235. That's why I'm surprised to see it referred to as dated. Maybe it's just me, but I think a name has to have been much more popular than that to ever be dated.
Both are good but my pick would definitely be Mara as that happens to be one of my top favorite names (:
