[Opinions] Mabel or Ida
If you had to name a daughter Mabel or Ida, which would you choose? "And by the way, dearie, your punctuation sucks canal water!"

MabelI never liked the sound of Ida. Mabel may be a bit saccharine, but I like the sound of it. Maybie is a cute NN.

Idal don't really like either, but Ida is at least tolerable.

IdaPronounced EE-da, not IE-da.

Ida, definitely. Mabel is too much of an old lady name for me.

Probably Ida...I want to love Ida but I'm not entirely sold on it yet. However, Mabel sounds sickly sweet to me and I just can't like that one.

My daughter is Mabel Susannah, so I guess you know my answer. :)

Mabel. Ida is genuinely awful. We couldn't believe it when a friend named her baby this!!

I know a little girl named Ida and she fits her name beautifully. Sweet, melodious, and ladylike, rather like Eva. Safe to say I probably don't share your opinion ;)

That is hard. I think I would go with Ida. I like it better in general.

IdaProbably as EE-duh. I just prefer the sound, imagery, and it's already on my list.

Mabel.
Simply because Ida is incredible boring and childish to me.

Ida. It's still in the top 50 here so it wouldn't be a strange choice.
I pronounce Ida like ee-da, by the way.

I'd go the Mabel route without hesitation. partly for its retro charm, and partly because it shortens to May without actually being May!Where I live, Ida can be either IEda or EEda. I know a Hyphen-Ida person (not Anne-Ida, but it could be) who uses the EEda version for family reasons.

Mabel, it is a lovely sweet name and I much prefer it to Ida which is to old fashioned for me and not a fan of the sound.

Easy, she would definitely be Mabel.:)

Mabel, if it was Ada I would of chosen that!

IdaIt's kinda shiny. Not as shiny as Ada or Iris, but shiny.Mabel is stable. Like a table. What it says on the label. I picture a plain stocky girl/woman working at a butcher shop or foundry. I don't know where that association comes from, but Mabel is definitely not the same as Maybelle.

Ida!I love Ida, BUT I pronounce it EE-da. I would totally use Ida or Alida nn Ida. I love the punchy sound, and even though it's not common, it's recognizable and fits in with modern American names.I don't understand the appeal of Mabel, it's very syrup-y. I knew a Mabelle and that was slightly better but still sickly sweet to me.

Ida. I like the simplicity. I like the "openness," if that makes any sense.
