[Opinions] Melody
Melody was one of my favorites a couple of years ago. What do you think of Melody? What would you imagine a Melody to be like and what would her parents be like? Would you put this into the same category as word names such as Destiny or Trinity (I don't have anything against these names but they seem to have a bad image)? I am a bit worried people might think of it as tacky.

I like it! A lot. It's a little tacky, maybe. It's a little more mermaidy than rhinestoney Destiny and Trinity, but I wouldn't say it's entirely out of the same category.

I love it! It's in my top twenty right now. I don't think it's tacky at all; it's very pretty and...melodic. lolI picture a Melody as an auburn-haired girl in her teens or early twenties with green or hazel eyes. She's a social butterfly, the life of the party, and she's always friendly. Her parents probably picked her name because they thought it was pretty.

I like Melody. I think it looks pretty and balanced, and I like that it's less nasally than Melanie. It's a word name that doesn't offend; pretty innocent meaning that most people could get on board with.I don't think it's tacky, and even if it was that's generally something that's not my concern. There are a lot of word names that tend to be on the cusp there, but I don't think of Melody as one of them anyway. To me it's in the same category as Summer, April, and Dawn: they were once seen as hippy-ish maybe in the 60s or 70s, but now they're pretty mainstream.

I like it and I don't think it's tacky. I don't think word names are inherently tacky anyway. It's fine, although I do prefer Melanie and would use that rather than Melody.I always imagine a Melody blonde. I think this is because the only Melody I've known of was a soap opera actress who was blonde. I wouldn't have any image of the parents of a Melody. I wouldn't think they were particularly musical or anything like that---I'd just think they found the name pretty.

That is interesting because I always picture a Melody as a dark-haired and faired skinned little girl. Very, young-snow-white-ish. I like Melody a lot and think it totally sidesteps the "tacky" vibe that some other names (like Destiny) give off.

Melody's kind of cute, but also a bit flaky. Not tacky like Destiny is, for instance, but kind of along the cutesy-baby lines of Lily and Mia.
When I was very little I had a doll that made various squeaks and honks when you squeezed different parts of her body. The doll was called Melody on the package. In no way could the sounds it could make be called melody. lolI much prefer Melanie.

Melody entered my remit years ago when I was a teenager. I only seemed to have one friend who was as interested as names as me and we were discussing them when I brought up Elodie. Her response was something along the lines of, "that's really weird, why not just call her Melody?"Before this I'd never really considered it and just hung it up with other 'tacky' names such as Destiny, Trinity, Heaven etc.
However, I thought and thought about it and eventually came to like it, in fact really love it. It was my number one name for quite a while with the combo Melody Marie or Melody Mary.I imagine a Melody to be a very sweet person; maybe not necessarily musical but possibly whimsical and rhythmic. Her parents are probably good people who love their children, possibly spoil them but set rules and have respectful relationships in the family.People will probably find it tacky but there will be people who dislike every name for whatever reason they see fit - don't let it put you off.Now Melody isn't as prominent in my favourites as it used to be. It dropped off my top ten completely for a while but now she's back, albeit lingering near the bottom.
