Help[Opinions] Beryl
This is one of those lesser-used gem names that I've taken a liking to lately. Of course, I know that some dialects pronounce it like the word barrel, and people my age might think of Queen Beryl from Sailor Moon (although she's always been one of my favorite villains from the series). I still like it, though.
WDYT of Beryl for a girl? Do you think it's usable these days, or is it too dated?

It's not to my taste, and there are other gem names I far prefer, but it would be interesting and refreshing these days. I don't find it dated because it was never particularly popular. I have met a Beryl around my age (late 20s) and no one thought it was a dated name- most hadn't heard of it.

I don't think that it's unusable at all. I can see why some people find it too dated, but I think that the pronunciation puts people (including me) off from using it.

There used to be a character in the Beano called Beryl the Peril, so that is my first thought. I find it a bit dated, but I would like to see it on someone else's baby as it's a nice enough name - just not my cup of tea.

Never would I even think of bestowing such cruelty upon a child. This is an absolutely unrealistic choice for a modern child. It's the bottom of the barrel; pun intended!

I think it's usable if parents have a bit of a thick skin, because I'm sure it would get some negative comments. There is nothing wrong with the name though, so why not. I had a prof named Beryl who was actually pretty great.

I like this name since I saw the wonderful period drama Downton Abbey where Beryl ( Mrs Patmore) is the cook. She was one of my favourite characters in it.

I looked up the pronounciation;the few times I'd heard it used, people said it as BURRL.Even more unattractive than barrel.
