Do you like Delphine or does it make you think of a dolphin? I'm torn, myself.

Delphine does make me think of dolphin but I don't like it as a name anyway

I don't like Delphine, and it doesn't make me think of dolphins. I think of sadist & serial killer Delphine Lalaurie and of the oracle at Delphi. Delphine has a creepy vibe.

I love Delphine. I think of the Oracle of Delphi before I think of dolphins.

This site does not give the meaning "dolphin." It says the meaning is "of Delphi" with a possible meaning of "womb."

A Dauphin is a French prince; a Dauphine is his wife. The pronunciation is not as it may appear to any without knowledge of French. You may however wish to explore these names through parallels in German.

No, makes me think of the character from Orphan Black (tv show). And I once heard the word "delphin" used, so it also reminds me of that.
Just looked it up...wait a minute, it means dolphin? That's okay, it's still pretty. And I like dolphins so it's cool with me.

Googled it but, after posting, looked again to be sure and kinda raised my eyebrows at the sources, lol.
One website said Delphine comes from the flower delphinium, which was named after dolphins. Not sure if that's actually true, but that's what's floating around on the internet.

Since dolphin is delfin in Swedish, Delphine just look like a creative spelling of delfin to me... Ph=f and a silent e at the end.

It's okay. I don't think it sounds too much like dolphin. I have a friend who reaply likes it, and I guess it has a nice sound and feel to it.

It doesn't make me think of a dolphin at all. It makes me think of ancient Greece and oracles.
I used to like it enough to shortlist it, but that only lasted until I encountered a toddler Delphine in one of my kids' extracurriculars. I thought in real life it would sound way too stuckup. The little girl was from a French speaking family, so it seemed normal on her, but on my own kid it would have been too precious and Euro-chic. Along the lines of Elettra or Lieselotte (names I think are nice in their language but are foreign enough to me, to seem odd and pretentious on my kid).

Well, I like dolphins, so it's not a negative association. But I don't really like the name because it sounds like a classification. Like feline for cats, porcine for pigs, bovine for cattle, delphine for dolphins.

I do not think of a dolphin at all, though so many other people do that I you can't avoid it.
I honestly really like this name. I do think a nice alternative that sidesteps the fishy side is Dauphine. It's not as solid without the balancing "L" there, but still captures the light, airy feel of Delphine.
