The past four years have been a roller coaster for the Gardiner family. Three and a half years ago, Bryan was involved in a snowboarding accident that left him in one hospital or another for six months. He has recovered physically as much as he is able, though he will never skateboard or snowboard again. He struggled to figure out how to live in his new "normal" for about a year and a half before he met Kelly, who has taught him that there is still much in life to enjoy. The two of them were married two months ago.
Last year, Violet retired from international gymnastic competition, though she still makes appearances at national events. She is teaching at a gymnastics school, but is still trying to figure out what she wants to do in life--she has found that teaching the sport she loves isn't the same as competing and isn't sure she wants to continue. Violet has had several boyfriends, but none of her relationships have lasted more than a few months because of her competition schedule. Violet is looking forward to settling down with a family, as Matthew has done.
Two years ago, Matthew and Ally finally tied the knot (after what seemed like the world's longest engagement). They were so excited to find out that they were expecting a baby after just six months of marriage! When Dylan was born nine months later, they were elated; however, Dylan failed his newborn hearing tests. Three months later, he had still failed them and was diagnosed as profoundly deaf. Matthew and Ally were devastated to learn of their son's disability; however, they have since done research and come to the conclusion that Dylan isn't so much disabled as he is just different. They are avidly learning as much sign language as they can, and are reaching out to others who are deaf so that they can learn about life without hearing and help Dylan thrive. In the midst of all this, Ally just found out she is pregnant again, and that, in eight months, Dylan will have a little brother or sister.
