Pepper sounds like a dog, Marigold like a cow, and Ethelred is too ugly to give even to an animal.
Pepper also sounds like something Patricia or Margaret or somebody would want people to call her when she's a pigtailed tomboy, and when she's grown up and working in an office for some reason she's never switched over to Pat or Margie or anything like that, and so she seems like she's trying too hard to be youthful.
Ethelred died a thousand years ago, and deserved to die and to stay dead.
