[Opinions] Re: Colin/Collin
in reply to a message by LMS
Never heard it pronounced Caul-in before, no matter how you spell it. If you wanted Coal-in, I'd do Colin, but the only time I've heard it pronounced that way is Colin Powell. I definitely wouldn't want to pronounce it like colon. lol

Funny thing is, Colin Powell is supposed to be pronounced CAUL-in, but lots of people mispronounced it in his life, so he gave up and went with COAL-in. But that's not really the correct pronunciation of his name.

You've never heard caul-in? Maybe I didn't describe the pronunciation correctly because that's pretty much the only way I have heard it besides the way Colin Powell pronounces it. It sounds like Colin Firth, Colin Ferrell, Colin Hanks, etc.

Right, well I assume you mean CAH-lin. The word caul I pronounce CAWL. So I'm not sure if you're saying CAW-lin or you pronounce caul like CAHL. Either way must be an accent difference. I've never heard CAW-lin, if that's what you're going for. :)

In my accent, CAH-lin and CAWL-in are the same. "call" and "caul" are pronounced the same.
