I think Lyle goes perfectly fine with Roger ot Nigel- better in fact that Roger and Nigel together (which seem too matchy to me.)
Lyle and Roger are both sort of bookish and wooly but also sleek and rebellious.
Nigel and Lyle are a bit rhymey but still fit ok, though I think Nigel does sort of overpower Lyle. They're a bit "know-it-all" but not in a pushy sense- in more of a curious educational way. This pairing is more one-note, I admit, but I really do like Roger and Lyle together.
I don't particularly care for Lyle but it's not bad
ETA: also I think Lyle is nicer with Hester. Roger and Hester together are stern, Lyle and Hester together are reserved but friendly. Same goes for when considering the names in your current set. Roger stands out as a bit "bullyish" next to Myrtle and Vance, whereas Lyle is right on their level.
