Three years after little Alex was born and Queen's Royal University was opened, Lutera again has reason to celebrate--both at the birth of a new princess and the birth of what promises to be a new dawn in Lutera. Afire with educational fervor on the heels of her university's success, Tess spent every moment she could for months planning something to expand education beyond just the university level. On Alex's first birthday, a plan for a queendom-wide system of academies for the education of children was instituted. Only months later, the first City Academies were opened in Tellemere, the capital city--one central to the poorer sections of town in an abandoned and repurposed temple, and the other in the middle-class section in a renovated warehouse. Others soon followed in other cities and larger towns, mostly housed in previously-abandoned buildings. Free to all, the academies are coeducational, staffed with trained tutors, and have dormitories for the housing of orphaned or abandoned children. It is Tess's dream to have academies in every town and village in the queendom.
Baby Edie's arrival came on the heels of the opening of the first of the Village Academies, in a little hamlet just west of the capital. For the first time, complications arose--not with Tess, but with the baby. After a normal delivery, baby Edith remained lethargic and did not scream the way her older siblings had. It took several days for her to be as alert and vibrant as the physicians liked, and she remains the quietest royal baby to date. Tess and Henry refuse to have her alone for a moment, even while napping. Sophie, who has developed into quite the little nursery ruler at age eight, has named herself her protector, and Davey and little Alex are very careful and quiet with her. The family worries, but they are optimistic that with care and vigilance, Edie will grow into a healthy little princess.
