I like Jill - but I would usually offer the formal name i.e. Jillian--at any spelling--to allow for the nick-name to be an informal variation and to be a special entreaty for those with privileged intimacy.
I do not recognize that this name is overtly "feminized in connotation", or, "belonging to females", so I'd would find little surprise to learn of a boy named Jillian / Jill. The Jack and Jill rhyme however may have Signed, Sealed, and Delivered the title of ownership among the ladies...
