[Surname] Origin and any info about the (Greek) names Talanges / Talankas
I would like to help out somebody who posted a message in a geneology group. His surname is Talanges and he lives in the U.S. His Greek ancestors immigrated to the U.S., and, as happened many times back then, surnames and first names were anglicized. This person has searched for a long time to find his roots in Greece, but he can find this name nowhere. I found out, that he has never searched the name in Greek characters, so I googled the name Ταλαγγης (Talaggis, pronounced in Greek as Talangis, but the Greek letter η is always translated in the Latin letter e. That's why I tried this spelling). I couldn't find the name Ταλαγγης, however I immediately found the name Ταλαγκας (Talagkas, pronounced in Greek as Talankas or Talangkas). I believe the similarity between the names Talanges and Talankas is very big. I am pretty sure there must be a connection. Does anyone here know if this is the case? Or does anyone here know what the origin of these names (probably) are? It would help this person a lot to discover from what part of Greece the name originates. Also any other information is very welcome. By the way: both spellings of the names Ταλαγκας and Talankas I have found several times on Facebook, so I've adviced him to contact them. Maybe they can help out. But as I remember the great knowledge of several people here on this message board, I kindly ask you for your help :)
