The past ten years have seen the Johanssens welcome several great-grandchildren into the family. Miran and Tori have slowed down a little as they've gotten older, but they still make a trip to Europe once a year to see various family members there.
Elissa and Kel have "semi-retired" to Sweden. They do still take occasional out of country jobs (particularly in the US, where they can visit family), but they stay a little closer to home these days. Colin, now 26, is enlisted in the Swedish Air Force. He flies helicopters, mostly, but has done some cross training on the fighter planes as well. He and his wife, Selina, have a two year old son, Adin. Lilly, 20, lives in South Africa and is following in her mother's footsteps by becoming a freelance photographer. She has been taking pictures since she was seven and selling them since she was ten (with Elissa's help, of course).
Aaron and Sarah are still living in the US, near the large university where Aaron still coaches. Sarah is enjoying her new role as grandmother, but has found it a little difficult to adjust since all the kids have moved out. Elina, 29, has been professionally blogging and playing the flute in a traveling orchestra for the past six years. She and her husband, Sam, have been married for two years and are expecting a baby next spring. Nathan, 28, got a degree in nutrition in college, but has been playing professional soccer (like his dad) since the age of 20. He and his wife, Emelie, have three little boys. Alisa, 26, works in a small daycare center. She is not yet married, but loves working with the kids at the center. Dylan, 23, didn't love soccer so much as he loved baseball. He worked hard in high school to increase his skill set enough to have a shot at the pros...and he got in! He has been playing baseball professionally in Toronto for the past year and a half (prior to that, he played in Texas for two years). He and his wife, Ellen, just welcomed their first child, a little girl. Bruno, 22, wasn't as interested in sports as his older brothers. He is in grad school now, studying to be an architect. He is seriously dating a young woman he met in his undergrad studies. Lucia, 20, is studying to be a veterinarian (her lifelong dream). She is still in her undergraduate studies, majoring in biology. She is far too busy studying and working part-time as a vet tech to hold down a steady romantic relationship. Todd, 18, followed his uncle's path, and played ice hockey from a very young age. He was a first round draft pick a few months ago, and is hoping to make the team in Chicago next year.
Eliah and Katja's little family has weathered a few storms of late, but they are sticking together. Freya is working as a children's book illustrator and loves her work. She married one of the publishers she met two years ago. The two of them have a little girl. Rania, 17, has recently announced her intention to move to China and teach ESL classes once she graduates from high school. Eliah and Katja keep reminding her that she needs to get some sort of teaching certificate before she goes, so Rania is applying to a few local schools. Emma, 16, found out she was pregnant last year. She and her boyfriend had been dating for six months. When he found out, he broke up with her. Emma decided to have the baby and raise him on her own. Baby Jonathan was born six weeks prematurely, but was healthy for his age. Luka, 14, has recently begun a search for his birth parents and, when he finds them, wants to live with them. Eliah and Katja are upset that he would just leave them, but understand Luka's need to figure out where he comes from.
Silas and Sabina continue to play in various orchestras and musical groups around the world. They are also loving their new experience as grandparents. Neah and Nemi, after traveling for awhile as a piano duet, parted ways. Neah continued on, playing with her younger sister, Nadia. Nemi settled down and got married to a young man she met in their travels--Aiden. She and Aiden just welcomed their first child, a little girl. Markus, 18, is in his freshman year of college. He wants to be a lawyer, so he's got several years ahead of him yet. Nadia, 16, travels with her older sister Neah and plays music.
Juni and Eric continue to work at the same hospital they started at all those years ago. They are well liked within the organization, and do their respective jobs well. Their sons are all grown up. Joey, 23, plays professional soccer, like some of his cousins. He enjoys the traveling, especially to Mexico and Central America. He and his wife have two adorable little girls. Mason, 21, plays professional hockey, like his uncle and cousin. He has been playing since he was seventeen and really enjoys it. He and his wife also have two daughters.
Maia and Daniel's two children are growing up fast. Their daughter, Melissa, is fascinated with nature. Their son, Lukas, is in love with all things "train".
Levi and Viola's family has grown in the last several years as well. Levi continues to play hockey, though he is thinking about retiring soon so he can spend more time with his family.
