Carrie was my go-to name as a child, for pretend characters, stuffies, cats, whatever. I do think it's dated, and slightly tainted by Stephen King. But it's still okay. It's not too dated for an adult to use. Callie still seems more childish to me, although it's OK too. It's a little bit artificial when it's from Caroline.
Caroline is so flowy to say that I don't think it really needs a nickname, tbh. I guess if it were my name, and people were resisting saying it, and trying to nickname me, I might call myself Cari or Cara.
