I've always thought it was gorgeous, but for some reason it's never made it onto my would use list.
I can't stand Maren. There's no rational reason for this. I like Karen a lot, and Sharon is OK. But Maren ... ick.
The only reason I can think of for me to dislike Maren is this. Many years ago, I met a friend of a friend named Marty. Then, out of the blue, I heard she had decided she wanted to be called Maren and no longer Marty.

I like it, I think it's pretty and it reminds me of wintertime for some reason. I pronounce it the same as you. I prefer Mara (different MAR pronunciation).
