[Games] LaRe's Royal Congrats: Sign-Ups!
Welcome one, and welcome all! It's been a considerable amount of time since one last saw a royal congrats around these parts, and so I thought, well, whyever not? Ergo: LaRe's Royal Congrats!
How does it work? Pretty much the same as any other congrats games works, really. The only difference is the ongoing royal family theme that influences the namebanks. And, of course, the story prompts. Each round will have its own story prompt, for the so inclined to write the stories of their families to. If writing isn't for you, fret not! The prompts will all be optional. The prompts will also assume a male Monarch leading a Kingdom, with a female Consort, for brevity's sake in pronouns.
Oh, and no ages, please, unless you are willing to update them according to my timeline jumps on your own. I fear I am not very arithmetically gifted.
Sign-Up Rules
1. You may choose any country, be it real, fictional, or something you just cooked up at the moment. The same applies to the Royal Houses.
2. The titles may be replaced with any title according to your whim. For example, you may change "Monarch" into "Maharaja", "Consort" into "Tsarina", "Kingdom" into "matriarchal warrior tribe", and so forth.
3. Fantasy, sci-fi, Medieval, and other settings/moods are allowed.
4. If you have any other idea you wish to implement which I have not covered above, feel free to shoot a message in my direction. Just, not literally.
The Prompt:
It's a royal match! Ere long after the previous Monarch's death resulted in their child receiving the crown, it becomes clear that the people are expecting their new leader to marry and produce heirs, lest a nasty succession crisis come about should anything happen to the young Monarch. But to public surprise (and occasionally, alas, outroar), the Monarch announces betrothal to a very unlikely and unexpected spouse! How did the twain meet, and why is this choice of Consort-to-be considered scandalous by the public? How are the rest of the royal family reacting to this?

Monarch: Breccan Nicasio Zevi Willem Augustus
Consort: Kalila Savita Whimsy [Scipio]
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Toril
In the Kingdom of: Sidonie
---
"Kalila, I love you," Breccan Toril, prince of all of Sidonie, whispers, his voice breathy against her ear. Kalila turns to him slightly before returning her eyes to the sky, hands on the controls, fingers dancing across them as she flies the craft. A scoff breaks the brief silence. "Kalila, there's no reason for us not to be together. I love you. Don't tell me now that you don't love me."
Keeping her eyes forward, Kalila slowly replies, "Breccan, honey, you know I love you. I just don't think it's a good idea for us to stay together. Not now that your father passed away and you're supposed to rise to the throne. I never wanted any of that. Besides, you're a prince. Princes aren't supposed to marry pilots. And that's what I am. A pilot. Other than you, my only love is the skies and the stars through which I fly. And if life is going to keep us apart, so be it. But you can't marry a mere pilot, sweetie. No matter how much you love me."
"Screw tradition!" Breccan shouted in outburst, his face glowing red with anger. His eyes glared out of his royal face. "We're not in the golden age where tradition was everything anymore. We're here. We're now. This is the modern age, Kalila. The modern age! I'm the prince and you know what I say? I say screw tradition, let's get married."
Kalila sat in silence. Her mind worked best when focused on her flying and the beauty and peace that brought. Breccan shifted his weight impatiently from foot to foot, waiting for her to answer. Patience was not a strength of the young prince. "So?" he inquired demandingly. Kalila, keeping her composure, shushed him. Despite how much Breccan disliked this habit of hers, he knew that she required time for thought. She was not the impetuous type to make a decision in the blink of an eye. That's one of the things he loved about her. They were so very different in that way. His impetuosity when paired with her caution resulted in many beautiful adventures and he knew--he just knew--that they would make a wonderful pair, both as a husband and wife and as a king and queen.

Monarch: Beatrice Antonia Estelle
Consort: Tarquin Alexius Tenley
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Lyon
In the Kingdom of: Ybern
It was a great surprise when the young queen Beatrice announced her engagement to Tarquin Tenley, the eldest son of a noble house in a neighboring kingdom. The Tenleys were known for their ambition, largely carried out byarranging advantageous marriages for their children. Tarquin had a cousin on the throne of one of the most powerful kingdoms in the region, one considered a threat to Ybern. Many thought it unwise to accept the offer from the Tenleys, and even that it was a potential power grab. But another camp states that it is wise to make such good connections and strengthen Ybern's standing internationally. Beatrice, for her part, appreciates that he is closer to her own age than many of her other suitors.

Gonna be weird and go completely original on this one. Whoa.

King Thanuselm had lead armies valiantly in the war against the people of Veraseng for nearly a decade and eventually succeeded in overtaking the southern lands, joining the lower half of the region to the kingdom of Bejagat. With the Kingdom of Veraseng a thing of the past, King Thanuselm returned to the home of the Xavia family, Bruna Castle, where he lived only one week before being stung by a foiler bee and dying of a severe allergic reaction right there in the royal garden. It was a wonder the war didn't erupt again within the hour.
The Kingdom had already begun saying things like "King Mácsen" before the oldest Prince of the Xavian House announced he wouldn't be the one crowned as their new ruler. Instead, he passed that title on to his younger brother Ciprian. It wasn't that Ciprian was necessarily better fit to rule. Mácsen would have been a fine ruler, but Mácsen knew what he wanted. He was in his mid-twenties and he was in love with a boy of no royal or political stature from a background of controversial standing (He lived with a group of touring carnies and performed vaudeville acts for a living. Not to mention his sole name was Aquarius.). Somehow Mácsen figured that there were too many areas of his relationship for the kingdom to find problematic with him as their ruler and thus abdicated the throne to his next oldest sibling.

King: Airdan Blackfern
Queen: Soora Wolfriver
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Ayen
In the Kingdom of: Tavaraen
Soora comes from a family of wealthy merchants who are very distantly related to the royalty of Ivran. They are in almost the exact middle of the social hierarchy, too high-born to be low class but with not enough status to be nobility. Constantly on the road bringing goods back and forth between cities, they are almost nomadic which adds to the sense that they don't belong anywhere. It is said by many who know them, and many more who know of them, that it is not uncommon for their personalities to reflect this.
Airdan was raised to be the king of Ayen. His parents dedicated his entire life to it. While his younger siblings went about their lives as normally as princes and princesses could, Airdan was kept inside the city walls learning everything he needed to know to become the king. While most boys his age would have resented this sort of upbringing, Airdan did not. He found strategy more fascinating than hunting and reading more entertaining than running.
Airdan and Soora knew each other long before their betrothal, although neither remembers how they first met. Over the years they became good friends, making sure to see each other every time Soora and her family came to Ayen. When it came time for Airdan to choose a bride it was expected he would marry a princess from the line of Navarre or Talseine. Royalty marrying royalty was such a normal thing that the prince who enjoyed learning to be a king more than anything else was the last person to be expected to break the tradition. So when he instead chose his friend Soora it surprised everyone. Everyone except his siblings, that is. They had grown up without constant reminder of tradition and so all but one were more annoyed that Airdan had done something that caused such a large reaction than surprised that he had done it. The oldest of his sisters had always suspected that he and Soora would end up as more than friends someday.

King Cadfael Aneurin Llyr Geraint
Queen Consort Naiara Josune Maialen
of the illustrious Royal House of Argall-Jasso
in the Kingdom of Egremont
When the thousand-year reign of House Jasso disintegrated at the hands of Lords Argall and Vilaro, the people of Egremont expected the victors' children to marry and lay the foundation for a new dynasty. Indeed, old Alwyn Argall, having lost his three eldest sons in battle, quickly announced the betrothal of his sole surviving heir Cadfael to Remei, the only child of his ally Guillem Vilaro.
Unbeknownst to Alwyn, however, Cadfael had long pined for Naiara, the beautiful daughter of the deposed Jasso monarch Nikola. The two had met during a brief cessation of hostilities, when they had each been sent in opposing delegations to broker for peace. The truce had lasted just long enough for them to begin an illicit affair, though they knew the end of the war would likely spell an end to one or both of them as well.
But a childhood spent on the battlefields rather than in the royal courts had taught young Cadfael to be bold but not necessarily diplomatic. And so, after his father's death from old age and his own subsequent coronation, the newly crowned King Cadfael reneged on his engagement to Remei and proclaimed that Naiara would become his queen. Further, he not only stayed the execution of Nikola, but he also made his future father-in-law the Commander of the Egremontian army. Lord Guillem was outraged at the betrayal, but with the military might of Houses Argall and Jasso now aligned against him, could do nothing except bow his knee to Cadfael and pledge fealty to him.

King Simon Arthur William
Queen Consort Mary Eleanor
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Wales
In the Kingdom of Wales, in Brittania
It was a fever that took the life of King Arthur from the Kingdom of Wales. The sudden death of his father threw Simon into the crown, at the young age of 19 and now, he was expected to wed. Simon had been betrothed to the crowned Princess of Cornwall, Anne, since he was a young boy, but it wasn't who he wanted to marry. As his father and his mother, Queen Isabelle, planned, the marriage of Simon and Anne was to ensure the peaceful unity of the two Houses and the future of the kingdom. But he chose someone else. Mary.
Mary Hodson was the eldest daughter of the King's personal physician, Alric. Because of his status, Alric, his wife and their five children grew up on castle grounds and often played with the royal children. But though the physician was very respected throughout the kingdom, the people -- and the royal family -- expected Simon to marry Princess Anne. When Simon announced he would marry his childhood friend Mary, the initial reactions were shock and outrage. Most feared his decision was bad for the kingdom and its people; that this "love" will cause friction to resurface with the neighboring kingdom, of which King Arthur had previously calmed during his reign. But Simon was confident in his decision to marry Mary and that the kingdom would continue to thrive.
So, only a few days after being crowned the new King of Wales, Simon married Mary Hodson, making her the new Queen.

King: Ibûn, son of Torbûn
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Durin
In the Kingdom of: Erebor
Farin surprised many by picking a male spouse - most people knew he was bisexual, but then again most also expected him to choose a female spouse to produce offspring. This way he could put off having children, a prospect he wasn't looking forward to very much. He know he'll have to have children some way, sometime - he's the only heir, as he has no siblings, cousins or iuncles suitable to rule the kingdom - but he'll cross that bridge when he gets there. Maybe they'll get a surrogate, or they'll adopt or he'll marry again, he does not know yet.

Queen: Eugenie Albertine Ingrid LOVISA
King (consort): PETER Magnus Lennart
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Bernadotte
In the Kingdom of: Sweden
After the death of the old King Johan VII, it was his freshly eighteen year old only daughter Lovisa who took over the throne, bringing the country back into the uncertainty that it faced just years ago. With her father marrying in his late sixties, she was the only offspring that the marriage produced and her coronation to Queen of Sweden brought the list of heirs back to 0. Being in rush to marry was not something that came as novelty to Lovisa, being brought up with the objective to marry early and produce as many heirs as possible in order to halt the noble Ribbing family from becoming the new Royal House in Sweden.
Looking for potential husband however proved to be a complicated task, especially when your heart leads you to someone who should be your enemy. When the engagement of Queen Lovisa and Peter Ribbing, son of Maurice Ribbing the pretender to Swedish throne, was announced many held their breath and questioned Peter's intentions. However it was soon crystal clear that it was a deep love and respect that connected the young couple and the public stood fully behind them. Unfortunatelly it was not true for Peter's family who disowned him and promised to do anything to prevent their offspring from accessing the throne of Sweden.

Of the illustrious Royal House of: Romelli
In the Kingdom of: Gretalia
Nicolas and Katerina were unlikely childhood friends. Nicolas went to a private school and had everything he could ever wish for. Katerina on the other hand, had a little rougher start at life. She went to a school close to Nicolas's, and she also had a cousin who was a good friend to Nicolas. Through that cousin, Nicolas and Katerina fast developed a deep friendship. When King Marios sadly passed away, the people of Gretalia expected Nicolas to marry another Royal, or at least a wealthy and beautiful woman. Instead, Nicolas introduced Katerina to the people as his fiancee. She is indeed a beauty, but not a wealthy one. That didn't stop the two lovebirds though, who the past two years or so has had a well hidden relationship.
Katerina is a bit worried about what everyone thinks of her, but Nicolas couldn't care less. He says that if they don't accept who he loves, then they're not rightful citicens of Gretalia.

Prior to the royal wedding, Tegwen, or "Teg" as she's known to her fans, was a model of avant garde fashion. Philip met her at a gala, and greatly admired her beauty and intelligence. She in turn admired his honesty and genuine personality. While the press gleefully lapped up the horror of an alien invading the Royal House of Windsor (it's a long-lived house), the royal family themselves accepted Tegwen easily enough-- after all, what's most important is that the King is happy.

Of the illustrious Royal House of: Manco
In the Principality of: Salvi
There was no doubt, when old and gouty Cipriano Manco died in his sleep, that one of his children would rise to become Prince of Salvi. However, two unexpected things came to light during the next few months: one, that it was in fact Cipriano's younger son Michele who took the role as his elder brother Vico went to become a mercenary lord instead; two, that Michele is determined to take to wife the daughter of a humble falconer who worked in his father's palzzo. Caterina Rossi was never known to be a particularly charming woman, nor an especially beautiful one, but she was shrewd and of a sharp mind. It is apparently this intellect of hers that drew Michele towards her. Likewise, Caterina is unimpressed by Michele's claim to gold, and certainly was not expecting him to be given the principality after his father's death. Instead, what first caught her attention was the way Michele stood by the gates to the palazzo every afternoon, playing his lute in the guise of a common bard. The first time she caught him, he claimed to be enjoying the anonymity and fresh candour in the way people act towards him when they have no idea who he is. But as time goes by, it becomes increasingly apparent that she was becoming the sole reason behind his daily visits to the gates.
By the time Michele and Caterina have their wedding, all of Salvi are forced to accept that neither threats of instability nor promises of gold will dissuade either of them from their marriage. Even Vico, a known charmer when it came to the opposite sex, had to admit that his little brother had found the rare and precious gem that is unconditional love.
