[Opinions] Nickname for Joseph
I just watched a TV show upon which there was a man named Josey. He was a real person and it's his real name, not a character. And it got me thinking to the book and movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales."
I don't know for sure that the real guy's full name is Joseph or that the fictional character's real name is Joseph, but common sense tells me that Josey on a male must have started out that way.
What do you think of Josey as a nickname for Joseph? Does it work, or is it too feminine?

I think if a man goes by Josey he better be an outlaw. lol Kind of like Rosey Grier; big as he is, and sure of himself as he is, who was going to laugh to his face about being called Rosey, or writing a how-to guide on macrame/needlepoint? (His real name is Roosevelt.)
I think Joseph and Josephine probably co-existed for a very long time, but that Josie was probably always much more popular as a nn or full name for girls. Your TV Josey and the movie character are the only males I know of who use that name.
I'd much rather see Joe for a Joseph; I always liked Joe, have known lots of them and it's such a capable, no-nonsense name.
Come to think of it, I prefer Jo over Josie on a girl for that same reason. Josie kind of sounds a bit spunky, but also frumpy.

I think it could work. I don't really like it for either gender tbh, it's kind of flimsy, but it works for a male. In a perfect world I prefer just Joseph with no nn.
The gender lines for nicknames are very blurry. I think Josey works for a boy and is kind of cute.
I think it's cute. I prefer Joey, though.
