As it turned out, a lot can happen in two years. For one, all of your little boys will be running around and doing a million different things. Two, your family will have to move in order to have all of the space necessary to contain everyone happily. And three, the adoption agency you've been waiting on will finally contact you and say to come pick up the girls you've been trying to adopt for what feels like a lifetime.Natasha had asked for them to look at girls in Romania. It was close to her and she spoke the language. She still had memories of her own history there. Natasha had been one of thousands of children adopted from Romania after the revolution. She had been a teenager when she was adopted and old enough to understand everything going on in the crumbling Romanian government. But she also remembered going from the overcrowded rooms of the orphanage in Constanța to the oversized bedroom in her new parents' mansion in Darien. It had been a culture shock. And while her personal situation had improved, she had felt lost and confused for quite a while before coming into her own in her new home.
That was one of the reasons she had made sure James and Steven knew how important it was to adopt multiple children from the same place. She didn't want them to feel the way she had.The first time they went to Romania to meet the sisters they would be adopting, they were thrilled. While Natasha had taught all of the children Romanian, James and Steven still spoke a very broken version of the language. Natasha figured it would take a while longer, but with the girls in the house speaking exclusively their native language, James and Steven should catch on soon enough.Marlena and Emilie were sweet and seemingly very close to one another. They warmed up to Natasha quickly and within no time, it seemed Steven had a way with them, but it was James talking to them that got them to open up one night. They were going to be leaving soon and both girls burst out into tears over having to leave their best friends. Apparently, their best friends were sisters too and close to their ages. "A girl or four," Steven laughed one night as the three climbed in bed. "Four."
"We can do it financially and we have the space now," James said with a yawn.
Natasha smiled to herself. "How many other people are blessed enough to be able to say that? We should take advantage of the opportunity for both our and their sakes."Soon enough, Sofia and Carina joined the family and Natasha was over the moon.
In no time, she had learned to french braid and was taking four little girls to ballet classes. Sebastian joined too (He was jealous of all the fun). More than once, Steven and James went to work with painted nails and didn't mind a bit."I know you guys never planned on children, but I can't imagine this house any other way," Steven said one night as he stepped over someone's misplaced shoes as he fumbled toward the bedroom.
"I can't believe we never planned on kids," James laughed.
"Me either," Natasha mumbled. "But let's say we stop. I live in a state of dead tired and I know I'm not alone in that."
"Agreed," both men replied together sleepily.Marlena, Sofia, Carina, & Emilie Romanescu
