[Opinions] Gwendolen, Ruby, & Mara
Like any? Out of the three, which one do you like the most (or hate the least)?

Gwendolen is alright, though not a fave of mine. Gwendolyn is nicer.
Ruby is gorgeous, I love it. It was my fave name for years and since I was about 15 years old, had planned to use it for a future DD. I have a 10 year old niece named Ruby though, so sadly I won't ever be able to use it.
Mara I like the sound of, but the meaning is terrible. That's why I prefer Amara.
Ruby is obviously my fave of the three.

Ruby is at or near the bottom of all possible lists. I don't much like gemstone names in general, and this one is just so down-market.
I knew a very nice, very pretty Mara at school. Rating it is a problem - fresher than Mary, livelier than Maura, probably not quite as nice as Moira ... very hard to find a nn for it, which I suppose is a plus.
Gwendolen is a good spelling. Turning -len into -line or -lyn is awful. I'd put it pretty low on a list of Welsh names as far as actual use is concerned, but I think that could be from associations with Gwendolens I've known. I could face it bravely as a mn on someone else's child, but I wouldn't use it. Actually, I'd use it before I'd use Gwyneth! But not in this lifetime.

Gwendolen is adorable, I'd seriously consider using it if I were to have a child. Not a fan of the other two though they aren't terrible by no means.
Gwendolen/ Gwendolyn is a top favorite of mine! It has a musical quality to it. Guendoloēna was a legendary queen of the Britons, and Gwendoloena (Gwendolyn) was the wife of Merlin in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Life of Merlin. The historical and mythological background give the name depth and a touch of magic for me.
Mara is beautiful but a little sad perhaps because of the meaning. I'm not fond of Ruby.

Gwendolen - I've never been inspired by Gwendolen, but I can see the appeal. It's very heavy which is not really a word I use to describe names often. I can imagine it would be hard to carry.
Ruby - Ruby is neat. It has a lot of components I love, especially since I'm holding out for a ruby engagement ring one day! ;) I can't completely get on board as a name though... maybe I'd have to see it on a person first?
Mara - Lovely. A gem. I think this is my favorite of the three. There's a lot of beauty that's overlooked due to simplicity I think.

Whenever I hear the name Gwendolen, I think of mandolin. I don't hate it, but I'm not really wowed by it. Gwen is also so strange looking to me, but it's not bad. Mara is okay, again, nothing special but I'd probably appreciate if I meant someone with that name.
I loooove Ruby. It's short and sweet, and so bold while still being classy. Ruby is one of my favorite names. I read a book where a characters name was Ruby and she was called Roo, which I think is pretty cute. Ruby Winifred is my favorite Ruby combo.
Obviously, Ruby is my favorite! Then Mara and then Gwendolen.

Gwendolen is nice, though Gwenllian is prettier and less common, and I like Gwenaelle too. I think it's similar to Finn in that people use it simply for the nickname Gwen- not all people of course, but I don't think I know a single Gwen who goes by their full name, and Gwen by itself is atrocious when there are so many nice full names for it.
Ruby I detested for a long time, due to my sister using it for everything. It's alright, I suppose, but I don't like it at all and the sound is unattractive to me.
Mara is cute. I guess I like it the most, because Gwen is so overused where I am.
