I doubt it would get mistaken for Alyssa as the beginning sound is quite different. I've met a Ulysses but never a Ulyssa.

I think it's great, but I'm guessing a lot of people won't see it for what it really is. A lot of people will just assume it's a creative version of Alyssa rather than an awesome feminine form of Ulysses. Like, I don't think people will confuse the two names, but I'm not sure people will realize how inherently cool it is.

I say Ulyssa like Ulysses, with a long u, not a short one. I think people would say it's a typo, and should be Alyssa. I like Odessa better as a fem. form. of Ulysses/ Odysseus.

I like it alright. I still prefer Alyssa, but the yoo sound isn't unappealing. Twice I've heard a stranger call a daughter Eudora (it might have been the same people) and I think it is distinctive and not clunky. So Ulyssa could work. I guess I would worry more about it starting to come out "Yalyssa" instead of "Yulyssa" in my accent. But I would not worry a lot about confusion with Alyssa. It'd happen at first introduction now and then, but people would learn quickly. Every name gets mistaken.

If it's pronounced uh-liss-uh, yes, it would be mistaken for Alyssa; sound the same, get assumed to be the same. I really like Alyssa.
If it's pronounced yoo-liss-uh, then I don't like it at all.
