Sure, I think it would be acceptable on a child of today.
You'd have to be firm against the nick-name Gustie, though, unless you didn't mind that.
My mother had an aunt named Augusta,always called Gustie.Presumably, she didn't mind that.

I don't mind Gustie. It's cute. I like Auggie better, though. It reminds me of the book Wonder by R. J. Palacio.
