Saw a female comedienne called Cariad on a show recently. A friend of mine used to call her partner Cariad as a nickname - she's welsh and I think it means love in Welsh.
What do you think of it as a girls name?

Funnily enough I may have just watched the same show (Have I Got News For You? Cariad Lloyd?), and I'm actually kind of liking it now I've heard it on a real person. I think it has a nice sound, and would make a great middle too. Something along the lines of Cariad Guinevere or Cariad Snow would be beautiful. I still prefer Cerys a bit more though, especially if Cariad is such a common term of endearment in Wales, although I have Honey on my list, so that stuff clearly doesn't bother me much.

It's a common term of endearment in Welsh, so it sounds silly to me, like an English kid called Lovey or Darling.

Yes, it means 'love' or 'my love'. Personally, living in Wales I would find it ridiculous as it's a very common pet name. But I suppose it could work in the States, and the nickname 'Carrie' is cute.
