Amelie may be less common in the US, anyway, but it is similar in sound to Emily, which is a dime a dozen. So you'd probably be no better off with Amelie, if you were concerned about popuarity.

I'd probably use this name for a future pet, since I have two other cats with French names, and I doubt that Amelie is a top pets name.
