Dakota is very dated. I would assume any Dakota I met was born in the late 80s-late 90s.It's also not particularly attractive, IMO.

Yes, definitely dated. I would have guessed it peaked in 1990, but I guess I'm off by about 5 years.
I don't have really strong feelings on the name either way.

I like Dakota and I don't think it's dated. I don't like Cody though, and I find that one dated.

Yeah, it's dated. Sort of like Jordan - the fad is over but still remembered, and the name is still being used. It's more dated as a guy name, than as a girl name IMO (probably because of Fanning?).Cody seems even more dated to me than Dakota (less likely to be used) - it's especially dated as a girl name, less so as a guy name. If Dakota's an adult I think "unisex." When I hear Dakota nn Cody I think "guy," but if I just hear Dakota and it's a child, I think "probably a girl, maybe a guy."I don't really like the name because it makes me think of a truck, and because the T sounds so much like a D that it sounds slightly sloppy to me. I don't hate it though. I think it's less tacky as a girl name. Cody is better as a guy name though.

I asked about Dakota nn Cody because I know one that goes by that nn, she would be late 80s baby.

This was almost my name......and I was born in '81. So, yeah, I'd say it's a *little* dated.

I wouldn't describe it as dated. In fact, I think it's quite modern to my ears, but I could be wrong. I don't really like either name.

Today's modern can become tomorrow's dated. I agree that it's dated. I could go either way on it.

Not dated, I don't think. Cody is such a whiny, babyish, cutesy-poo, saggy-diaper, thumb-in-mouth, food-smeared-face kind of name, it's totally at odds with the self-conscious rugged Western cowboy in skin-tight jeans that Dakota tries to be.
I don't like Dakota, it's so hyper-butch but also weirdly androgynous, and it seems more like a name for a big dog than a person.
