Esslyn is not a made up name. It is a Welsh boys name. My youngest son is named Eslyn, after his paternal grandfather, who had a Welsh mother. Grandad Eslyn was born in England. His mother named her son Eslyn after a childhood friend in Wales. We do not know whether her friend spelled his name with one 's' or two but grandad had one 's' and so my son's name is spelt the same way. I have always regretted not insisting on putting another 's' into his name as most people seem to struggle to say his name correctly, pronouncing it "Ez-lin", which is hideous.
