Bethania is a little too much for me.

I love Bethany! I feel the same way about it. It's definitely an upbeat, bright, friendly name. The only negative I could think is that it may seem dated. The only Bethanys I know were born in the early-mid 80s, and I know at least 5 of them. All nice Bethanys. :) I don't understand the tacky reception of it at all. I'd use it in real life, but my husband had vetoed it a long time ago.

I don't think Bethany is ugly or tacky at all. It has just never captured my imagination the way Elizabeth has so as a result, I've given it very little thought. It does give off a sunny and friendly vibe. If you love it, then go for it.

I love the name Bethany and the nn Beth. My niece is Chloe Bethany and my sister almost used Bethany as her first name but changed her mind as where we live it can quite often end up being mis-pronounced as Bef'ney which my sister would have hated.

I don't think its tacky, but I do find it dated to the late 80's early 90s. Its not my favorite and almost everyone shortens it to Beth, which is worth.

I like the sound and look of Bethany, but I also find it quite drab and lacking, I think simply because I've known so many of them, it's become very 'everyday' to me.

The one Bethany I know (a friend's sister) is really bright, cheerful, and friendly, so Ive only got good things to say about it. It's pretty popular here (UK) , so loads of people seem to agree.

It's been overdone, I think, so people find it boring. I prefer Bethan, which could I suppose have Bethany as a nn.

I'm not a fan of Bethany, but I don't think it's tacky or especially ugly. It's definitely not in the same category as Britney and the likes. And I like the nickname Beth.

I've always been quite fond of Bethany myself and have also liked it since childhood. I don't understand how anyone could find the name ugly and tacky?! Very strange indeed. I think Bethany is a pretty, respectable classic and I adore the nn Beth.

Well, I don't think it's "tacky" exactly, and I certainly don't think it's ugly. But it's a place name turned into a first name because it sounds pretty, a thing I'm not the biggest fan of, and it was trendy at one time and is becoming dated. It's not a name I would recommend for those reasons.

I much prefer Bethan. That has the same soft, dust-brown quality I like in Bethany, but Bethan has a strength to it as well.

I've always liked it. My best friend in Oklahoma was/is named Bethany, and there's a town named Bethany in Oklahoma also. And here in Delaware there's a very pretty town called Bethany Beach.
I think it's cute and youthful but grows up well. Much more interesting than Elizabeth.

I love Bethany. It was one of the first names I ever loved as a kid and I had a doll with the name. Now that I'm older, I find it kind of babyish and lacking a certain 'oomph' but like you, I think it sounds bright, cheerful and friendly. I always smile when I hear it and would love to see it used a little more. I definitely don't find it ugly or tacky in the slightest.
