Does anyone know the meaning of the female name Freyda, I rather like it but don't know that much about, I think its related to Freya which is Norse but not certain.

Freyda is a variant of Freyde, a Yiddish name meaning "joy."

I know a Freyda. She is in her 80s. She is named after her Aunt Freda... which, by her pronunciation, is a variation on Frieda instead of a named based on Winifred etc. It means "peace", from the German frid (according to BtN at least.

I guess it's either a variant of Frida (or Frieda) or derived from the Yiddish name Freyde.
