I'm Welsh and have no problem with non-Welsh people using Welsh names. Then again, I don't speak Welsh so I don't feel "properly Welsh".

I like quite a few welsh names, faves include Megan, Anwen & Rhiannon. As for whether welsh names should only be used on welsh people, difficult, mostly I'd say no if you like it go with it. However, I feel it is alot nicer if you can find names you like within your own herritage. Many names like Megan are no longer realy welsh because they have become much more widely used, but from my experience there are others which are still very Welsh & it would still be seen as a little odd certainly here in England on an English person, for example, Llewella, Blodeuwedd, Dai, Rhodri, I certainly wouldn't use such strong sounding welsh names especially as with some pronunciation may also be a problem.
jmo tho! Evy

Well, I prefer Welsh names that have been Anglicized, like Tristan and Meredith ..My POV depends a lot on the fact that I've spent my whole tiny life in the US. I think that when the name contains phonemes from Welsh language which are quite foreign to English speakers where you live, it's too distracting to use the name for a kid in an English speaking place -- unless you happen to be a Welsh speaker yourself, which sort of excuses you. Gruffydd, in my opinion, at least ought to have some Welsh blood. Griffith doesn't need it. It's not as big an issue with Welsh names as it is with Irish names, though.I notice that a lot of the names you are giving here are Anglicized, which is nice.

I like Arwen and Eowyn, which are beautiful but I would never use them because of LotR. I like and would use Carys, Gwen/Gwyn names, Owen or Rhys on your list. Welsh names are nice and I might be able to get away with it slightly because DH is English...it's close enough on the map. We'll see!
