[Opinions] Second set of matchy twins
One of our PTO moms gave birth to her second set of twins over the weekend, a pair of boys named Matthew and Matthias. Even non-namenerds appear to be struck dumb by the choice.
Her first set (b/g) is Joseph and Joscelyn, and between the two pairs, she has an Aiden.
I sort of like Joseph and Joscelyn together, but I think "Matthew and Matthias" is such a missed opportunity. Thoughts?
For fun, what names would you pick if you had a singleton and two sets of twins, and you wanted your twin names to share a theme or be matchy in some way?

That's the same name.....
I would have:
Alba & Afton (dawn & evening)
Xanthe
Geneva "Neve" & Adelaide "Addie" (both are cities)

I agree with you..
Joseph and Joscelyn worked because they are technically different names, for different genders. Joscelyn may have some of the same elements as Joseph, but it is not the same name.
Matthew and Matthias are THE SAME NAME, but simply from different cultural backgrounds. I mean, come on...
As a twin, I am offended on little Mattie 1 and little Mattie 2's behalf. It's not the same baby broke in two and they deserve a little more thought than the same name twice.
I might sound harsh, but the trouble those poor boys will have just irks me.

Oy. That's up there with the (identical) twins I know named Jenna and Jennifer. :/
All together though, not a bad set of names in their family. Aiden sticks out a bit.
Right now I'd name mine:
Evan / Hope
Patrick
Jonathan / Theodore
(Twins both have same amount of letters in their name)

Matt and Matt? Eh. Don't like Matthew, but Matthias is nice.
I'd name the kids:
Alexander & Arthur
Theodor
Leo & Lucas

That is a jaw-dropper, for sure. And a lost opportunity.
Twin girls could well be Helen and Lucy, followed by Gillian and Juliet.
Twin boys ... trickier. The male name pool doesn't seem to lend itself to that kind of matchiness. Perhaps Robin MN and FN Robert? But I don't think I could face it. I'd probably go for Daniel and Thomas, which would be thematic only because of our grandfathers (one Dan and two Toms).
Singletons ... Peter or Caroline, depending.
I once knew b/g twins named Michael and Michelle, and another pair named Mark and Marcelle. I found it disappointing.

I think both the twin pairs are pretty bad. Aiden is quite bad too.
I'd go for Olive and Basil, Martha, and then Clement and Constant.

At least they didn't go with Joseph & Josepha, Aiden, and Matthew & Matthias.
She says she actually had 3 sets of twins, but she lost Aiden's brother or sister in one of those "vanishing twin" miscarriages.
I guess her ovaries work overtime every month.

...or she eats cassava root. This used to be a staple in my husband's diet and I have heard that eating lots of Cassava (yam) increases your egg output.
In any case, three sets of twins is pretty impressive. Now, someone buy her a baby name book for the next set.

Matthew and Matthias is just stupid. What if they both want to go by Matt? In fact what other nicknames are there? I mean, Matthias could be Thias or Tye I guess, but Matthew is pretty much stuck if his brother decides to be Matt.
Joseph and Joscelyn is pretty silly as well, but at least they have different sounds. I think it'd be better if they'd spelled it Jocelyn so they were less matchy too, but that would probably defeat the purpose for them.

Matthew and Matthias? Matthias is great, Matthew is a bit meh, but as twins it's just dumb. Definitely a missed opportunity. They've basically got the same name. You can be matchy without doing something like that, like Joseph and Joscelyn! They go really well together.
And I really like Aiden :)
If they had to be matching is some way I might have done...
Leo and Ariel (both "lion" names, and the AH-ree-el pronunciation, not "air-ee-el" which I hate)
Xavier
Skye and Somerled (I love Skye for a boy and Somerled is a GP for me but I chucked it in there anyway. Matchy because they both have Scottish ties, you've got a "sky and summer" thing going on, and they both start with S.)

I can't say I am a fan of their name choices really. I like:
Jasper and Jemima
Reuben
Enoch and Ezra
OR
Jasper and Jemima
Moses
Asher and Abel
OR
Jasper and Jemima
Gideon
Seth and Solomon
Way too much fun!

Oh. Well. Now I'm sad. Matthias is gorgeous, Matthew is dry and bland. Joseph is handsome, Joscelyn I would prefer as Jocelyn, and I guess the two aren't terrible, but I think even they are a missed opportunity. I prefer Aidan or Aodhán to Aiden.
I would go for...
Romilly and Roman, August, and Ivor and Hector
OR
Jasper and Juno, Basil, and Victor and Viggo.

Joseph and Joscelyn make a sweet sibset. I don't mind them matching since the other siblings don't have names starting with J. Aiden is fine. I can't really dislike it even though it's overused and bland. I like Matthias but not Matthew and definitely not together as names for twins. I wonder what she will shorten their names to. Matt and Matt? It's kind of stupid. It's bascially the same name and it's way too close.
The names I would pick:
Ellen and Emmanuel
Isidore
August and Astrid
