We were discussing on here the other day how when naming twins, many parents seem to gravitate towards matching or rhyming names so when I read this article, it brought it all back.
Shelby Magnani delivered twins, Anna and Ava, over a week ago. Surprisingly, she and her fiancé, James Croskey, didn't even know she was pregnant. More unusual was the fact that Anna and Ava are rare monoamniotic twins (one placenta,one amniotic sac, 50% survival rate).
Okay, so I realize this was a spur-of-the-moment event and the parents probably picked names quickly without having given them much thought beforehand. I wonder if that's why Anna and Ava are so twinny. Still, at the last minute, the parents could have done much, much worse.

I like both names. They're good as twins too.

I don't really like this sibset.
Both are way overused. In addition, Anna is rather old and classic, while Ava is one of those recent names.
With Anna I would have chosen a more classy name like Judith, Sara, Charlotte, Elise, Laura, Lily, Louise, Mia, Zoe or Julia.
With Ava I would have chosen Hannah, Junia, Leah, Mara, Elsa, Ella, Lily or Mia.
Of course, they could have done much worse, but it still seems like they just used the names that came to their mind first.

Anna and Ava are similar, but the sound is different enough that it's not so likely they will be misheard. Not like say, Emma and Ella.
But Anna and Ava are awfully anemic.

I like the names individually, but I don't like matchy names.
