[Opinions] Moss
I've been thinking a lot about the name Moss lately.
I love Moses, Mozes and Mose, but Moss never really appealed to me. I never gave it a second thought. But now it's growing on me.
What do you think? Good or bad? Maybe as a nickname? What are some middle names that come to mind?
*Suzanne, mother to Noah Jonas, Ides Gideon, Orion Gabriel, Salka Rosemaria, Janusz Angelo and Olivia Pauline*

I think it sounds masculine but I didn't mentally relate it to Moses when I read it, rather to forest and stream imagery and actual moss. Is it meant to be pronounced with a long 'o'? I like that imagery and, being accustomed to Ross, it sounds quite name-like to me, even if I'm pronouncing it wrong.
Oooo, good call!
LOL growing on you :)
I've heard it as an nn for Mostyn, which is okay, but I can't see it as a full first name - unless it was a family surname and might result in a fat inheritance.

Hmm. Well, it is definitely a word. But, for me at least, it's a positive nature-y association. Moss has so many different shades of green and it's so soft. I kind of like it for the association. I definitely wouldn't be gutsy enough to use it as a first name, but it would make a rockin' middle name. I don't think it's unusable as a first name, though.
I saw you're getting a lot of naysayers. Maybe Moss as a nickname?
Amos nn Moss
Mosi nn Moss
Mostyn nn Moss
Thomas nn Moss
Nicodemus nn Moss
Morris nn Moss
Morrison nn Moss
Morpheus nn Moss
Moss Emmanuel
Moss Evander
Moss Elijah
Moss Oliver
Moss Benjamin

It's just a surname to me, common where I grew up.
I'm guessing you mean the plant/lichen/tight-growing green stuff that grows in damp areas?
I wouldn't mind it on a boy, especially if it's a family name. Not on a girl .

Bad. Definitely bad.
I would hate to be named Moss and have people constantly make that lame joke, over and over and over again. JMO.

Moss is a family name for me - he was my great-great-uncle (or something similar - I can't remember off the top of my head). His real name was Ira Moss but he went by Moss since his grandfather went by Ira. He's a really cool, adventurous guy in our family tree, so the name has always had good connotations for me. (He went "out west" in the US while it was still wild and untamed, and we have lots of his old letters!).
Anyway, I'm not sure if I'd use the name now. I like the idea of using it as a nickname like you mentioned. It's got some family appeal to me and I like the way it sounds.
A few combo ideas - I like it with more traditional middle names since it's a little more unusual, but I'd also love to see it in a combo with honoring names.
Moss Christopher
Ira Moss
Moses Joseph nn Moss
I'm sure you can come up with many other good ones :-)

I'm not a fan. I don't think it sounds nice. If it were to be used, I think it should be a middle name only.
Bad. Not even good as a nickname; too tied to the fuzzy green stuff that grows on trees.
I see you had to describe it, too. I'm not botanist enough to correctly identify it.
I looked it up. It's just a plant.

Heh. "Moss never really appealed to me. [...] But now it's growing on me." Lol xD
One of my two nephews is named Moss. At the time I didn't like it at all, thought it was silly and everything, but he's so adorable that I find myself loving "Moss" too. He's four and you can already tell he's gonna be the kind of person who'll totally own this name.
His middle name is Nathaniel.

You have a nephew named Moss? Cool!! It the other nephew his brother? If so, I must know his name!
Yep, they're brothers xD The older one's name is Merlin.
Woah, namers-extraorinaire! Cool. May I hope that they have more??
Lol!! I was 15 when Merlin was named and I thought it was the coolest name on the planet. I'll tell my brother someone thinks he's a namer extraordinaire xD
And I dunno, maybe! I don't think they plan on more but I guess you never know.
