[Opinions] Rina
I've come across this name in a book. Yay or Nay? Too nicknamey? What indeed, as a nickname? For Caterina? Regina? Something else?

Catherina where I live, also Hendrina. Very frequent among the elderly! So it doesn't zing or jingle for me, and I would be surprised to encounter it as a name in its own right - I've only seen it once as a full name.
ETA: Also Irina I suppose, though I've only ever seen that as a complete form, no nicks.

Rina is a very common name where I live, though not, probably, for anyone under age 45. Here, it's not a nickname, but a stand-alone.
It's sometimes given as a female honouring name for the man's name Rino.(Ree-no, not Ry-no, like the big African beast).
To me, it's too common, but that's a very local reaction.

I just picture an old, leathery woman with a smoker's voice sitting at the slot machines all day.
a couple from our church have adopted a little girl named Rina and I really like it. I think it would be cute as a nn for Katrina but Regina is nice too. I like it on its own as well. other names that could work would be Corina?
Nay. I want to stick something in the front of it.
Renal failure is all I can think of.
It seems like half a name, and most of the names I can think of that it could be a nickname for are so much nicer. Marina, Karina, Regina? All way better than Rina.
I do like Raina/Rayna/Reyna.
