I've loved the name every since I was a romantic teenager reading Russian novels. There always seemed to be a minor character named Anatoly (and Ippolyte / Hippolyte (sp?), come to think of it.)
Anyway, I found out in French classes that Anatole is a variant. Love it.
It has a very gentile, old-world charm about it. The only down side is that most people who haven't heard of it before think its gender is up for grabs. They might start using it on girls.
