[Opinions] Hermione
I'm in love with the name Hermione, lately.1) What are your thoughts on the name Hermione?
2) Is it too "Harry Potter" still to use it?
3) What do you think of the nickname, Mione (my-oh-knee)?
4) What do you think of the sibset: David Walter, Alice Lorraine & Hermione Clarisa (David, Alice & Mione)

1) I LOVE Hermione.2) Sort of. I love Harry Potter, in fact it's one of the reasons I love Hermione so much. Harry Potter has made it a usable name - people now know how to spell and pronounce it, for example. Also, Hermione really is a good character and a role model - it's not like naming a kid Draco! I think it is usable, but I think some people would disagree.3) I don't like it - it looks and sounds awkward. I don't really like any possible nickname for Hermione. For this reason, I'd probably only use it as a middle name.4) I don't think it works. David and Alice are very common and classic name. Hermione is not, it just doesn't fit.

1. I like Hermione, enough to consider it as maybe a middle name.
2. I think it absolutely will still be associated with Harry Potter. That being said, the books have made this name a lot more approachable- people know how to say and spell it now. And Hermione Granger isn't a bad character to be associated with.
3. I don't mind Mione, and it makes sense as a nickname.
4. I think Hermione stands out as the other two are classics and I'd say Hermione is an ancient name. But they do flow nicely with each other.

1) It's okay. I used to like it more than I do now
2) That's the automatic association for most people and will be for a long time. However, it's not a bad association. And it does mean that most people know how to pronounce it.
3) Too cutesy for me
4) Alice and Hermione match well enough, David less so.

1- I like it, but can't see it used on a person where I am (US)
2- I know there are other associations with it, but for most young people where there isn't a history of it being used, too HP
3- Mione makes sense, but any nn feels forced to me
4- Hermione/ Mione stands out in this sibset

1. I like it a lot! 2. I'm not sure. I work at an elementary school, and I know I've seen students walking around with the books before, so they're definitely still being read. I know it's still in the public conscious. To what degree is the question. I would say a lot of people would still think of HP when hearing Hermione, but maybe they wouldn't be as inclined to think the name just came from that? Maybe? On the plus side, as someone else mentioned, the pronunciation is now pretty well known.3. I kind of like it, but I kind of don't. I can't quite make up my mind. I think part of me doesn't feel like it's a proper nickname, more like maybe someone was being a lazy talker and just dropped the first syllable. I like Henny better...Well, except for the bit where I think it would probably have more teasing potential.4. I could see Alice and Hermione together in a sibset. In fact, I really like the two together. They both seem old-fashioned and literary. David just vibes differently to me. It seems so generic. David brings Alice down to commonness. Next to David and Alice, Hermione sticks out. (Sorry!)

1) I like it, but only because I like the HP character. I wouldn't look twice at it otherwise.
2) Yes. But on the plus side at least people know how to pronounce it now.
3) Ick
4)Hermine seems out of place because David and Alice are so normal.

I voted for Hermione Clarisa on both polls. I love, love the idea of Alice and Hermione as sisters. They are such a natural sounding duo. :0)I pronounce Mione more as two syllables, with a very quick schwa in the middle, more like, "MIE-uh-nee." I think you could even get by with Minnie as a nn for Hermione. How cute would Alice and Minnie be? As for the HP angle, I'm old enough to have other associations than the HP books / movies. But I do get that the generation she grows up in will be more influenced by it. I still think it's worth using. The HP association isn't a bad one. It's just you that will have to get over the (incorrect) feeling that everyone thinks you are just going along with a fad. You know you aren't. Your friends and family know you aren't. Your dd will know you didn't. In the end, that's all that matters, right?

I love it. I have a bunny named Hermione, nicknamed Mio (sometimes Mione). I named all the baby-bunnies after characters in Harry Potter (Hermione, Harry, Minerva, Molly and Arthur) so for me it's very associated with HP. Hermione is horrible with David and Alice though. It stands out way too much.
