I would pronounce the two names the same way. I agree with you about the spelling. I think of it as a variant of Lynn, so Lynette just makes sense. Lanette is suspiciously close to La Nette / L'nette for me. (~~~~shiver~~~~)
What do you think of Linnet? The stress is on the first syllable, not the second. It a neat nature name, plus it's got Arthurian romance overtones.
