I have known one Laurel, she was a high school teacher of mine and would be in her fifties probably now. It's definitely not popular around here, probably because there is a town called Laurel right near.
I don't like it as much as Lauren or Laura. It's indistinct and kind of mumbly, and with certain middle names just sounds like Laura slurred.
