I love Maya, and like Maia. I think Maja would have too many pronunciation problems.
It's more commonly spelled Mya in Scotland now. It does get rid of the pronunciation problems, but I don't think it looks substantial enough that way. A work colleague recently spelled her daughter's name Maiya, which I think looks quite awkward.
