Pete and Hetty were married two months ago. It was a quiet, rather secretive affair. Pete is a supporting actor in an up and coming television series, and Hetty is the author of a wildly popular children's book series. She has written seven books and is working on the eighth, ninth, and tenth. Pete works long hours on a sci-fi/adventure series. It is only in its first season, but is already garnering attention from not only critics, but also the general public.
Pete and Hetty met at a book signing (Pete was getting a few books autographed for his ten-year-old sister, who is a big fan of Hetty's). They "ran into each other" at three of Hetty's next four book signings. Pete finally asked Hetty to meet him for coffee, and she agreed. From there, she visited Pete's set a few times, and he became a regular at her book signing events and other public appearances. After four months of playfully stalking each other, they began officially dating. Three months later, Pete proposed. Hetty accepted, and they were married eight months after that. They decided to keep the wedding quiet and only invited family and very close friends.
Pete and Hetty are living in Pete's two bedroom apartment. Pete is very busy at work, and Hetty spends much of her time writing. Despite their busy schedules, they want to begin a family.

Sara was eight years old, but had lived in extreme poverty her entire life. Her parents dropped her off at the orphanage when she was four, and she has been there since that time. Sara was glad to be offered a chance at a new life. She doesn't speak any English, but is quickly learning (and teaching the family Spanish in the process).

Pete and Hetty didn't expect to adopt another child so soon after bringing Sara into the family, but they found that the addition of a young preteen from Thailand was meant to be. By the time everything was finalized and Anuman had arrived in America, it was three days before his thirteenth birthday. Anuman speaks some English, but it is heavily accented, and he is most comfortable conversing in Thai. Pete and Hetty have had a busy year. Pete's television show was cancelled after six years, but he's lined up a variety of guest appearances and has several auditions coming up for more permanent roles. He also figures on two more years at a part-time pace to get his bachelors degree. Hetty (over the past few years) has managed to continue writing books--five more books added to her original series, three stand-alone children's books published, a collection of baby books she wrote for TJ, and two non-fiction books about adoption and parenting children who've already developed their native language skills. Anuman is now fifteen. He is a smart kid, and has worked hard in school. He's going into ninth grade, and is nearly fluent in English too. Sara, 11, had a rough year. She was just getting caught up to age appropriate development when she had a seizure. Two months of testing and six seizures later, doctors diagnosed her with epilepsy and started her on a therapeutic drug regimen. Seven seizures later, and they got the medications right. Now, Sara has been averaging one to two seizures a month for the past three months. She is terrified after having the seizures, and it has really affected her social, emotional, and educational growth. Pete and Hetty have assured her over and over again that they will love and take care of her, even if she is having seizures. They know she is worried that they will abandon her because she isn't healthy anymore. TJ And Zach are good little boys. They adore their older siblings, even if they look nothing alike. TJ speaks a mixture of English, Spanish, and Thai--but he always makes his needs known (and is always asking his older siblings to teach him more words). Zach is just starting to walk. He babbles a word here or there, but is still largely incoherent. He is a happy baby, however.

Anuman loved the big party, even if he doesn't think sixteen years of life is such a huge deal. For Anuman, it was more about having people around who care about him and making sure that everyone had a good time.

Anuman helped "PeteDad" and "HettyMom" (as he calls them) pick out the dog for Sara's thirteenth birthday (another milestone birthday). They also helped name him "Ollie", which fits him well. Sara's seizures still occur occasionally, especially when she's stressed. TJ, six, started first grade this year. His teacher worried at first when he would say a phrase or two in Spanish or Thai, but he's mostly switched to English at school and more of a mixture at home--after all, everybody speaks a bit of all three languages.

Now, they live in a small flat in Germany, where Tony accepted a two year assignment there as part of his position at the UN. Mira is, by trade, a nurse. She accompanied Tony on the assignment and is working on getting her German certifications so that she can be a nurse in that company.

Tony and Mira have lived in Germany for a year now. Shortly after their arrival, Tony and Mira began pursuing the adoption of a little boy that Mira came across at work. He had been neglected by his parents and brought to the hospital by a concerned neighbor after they found him wandering around the hallway in nothing but a diaper. After six months, Tony and Mira were cleared to begin the adoption process. Because they hadn't lived in Germany for very long, the paperwork took a little longer to process. Finally, Jonathan Marcel Geiger became Jonathan Marcel Lowell. Tony and Mira were able to celebrate Jon's second birthday, and love having a toddler to spoil.
