[Opinions] Xander
My mum passed away when I was young. Her name was Sandra. I have been thinking about Xander (not Alexander, I don't like that) to honour her. What are your thoughts on this? I don't absolutely love it but I think maybe it night be a nice idea, havent discussed this with Cam yet either. Thanks :)

I think it works pretty well! Don't think it needs the full name at all. And it works really well with the sibset.

I don't really see Xander as an honoring name towards Sandra. And I like it more as a nickname. It is heavily associated with BtVS for me, too, which means I find it hard to picture on an actual person.

Both Xander and Zander are annoying to me, and seem childish as well, sorry. Maybe as a mn?

I think Xander would be great as a mn. It does flow with your other children's names well but I just think it is a name that is overly used right now and will not age well. Maybe Sanderson as another option?

I think it's a nice way to honor her. Xander works nicely with your other kids' names, too.

I much prefer Alexander. Xander is so annoying, hipster and as far as I can tell, traces most of its use to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a show I never got but everybody else my age seemed to love it.
I do think Sandy is a nice, though old-fashioned, nickname for Alexander. Not used much for men in the US though it is a popular nn for Sandra; Sandra is fairly dated here too but is still well-used. It seems to be especially popular with Hispanic girls.

OT, but I thought "Buffy" was just okay. I caught a couple of episodes when it was on, and while I got the appeal, I wasn't eager to see more. It was run-of-the-mill for me.

Well, I think Xander is a nice nn for Alexander but looks incomplete on its own.

I think it'll date very quickly, in fact, it's getting old already. As a mn it would be fine; otherwise, would Alec be too far removed?

I think it's a very nice way to honour your mother. I'd prefer Sander in this case, but both would be a good idea I think :D
For honouring there's also Sandor, Lysander and Cassander, in case Cam isn't too keen on Xander.

My names Cassie so Cassander night not work.

Ah true! I forgot :)Although, Cassandra / Cassander would be a great way to tie your name and your mother's, but definitely as a MN then.

I think Xander looks childish. My cousin Alexander was called Xander or Xand all through childhood. When he started secondary school at 11 he asked everyone to start calling him Alex as it's more grown up. It also looks a bit incomplete to me, probably because the X at the beginning is strange - so few words start with X.
if I was going to use Xander without Alexander as a full name, I would probably spell it Zander as it looks less awkward.
