I love the name Maple. Less silly than Maybelle, but I don't find Maybelle silly either. I think it's pretty.
I'm not really sure why "maple syrup" is considered an insult. It's not like Maple rhymes with diarrhea or prostitute. Maple reminds me of my favourite team, and for Canadians, it would be a cool patriotic choice.

I'm married to a Canadian and am thinking Maple is kind of a cool way to hono(u)r that side of the family!
