[Opinions] Manny

Last night I had a dream that I was expecting a son that I was going to name Manny. That's TWO dreams now I've had where I named a son Manny. I have no idea where it comes from, like why does my brain like the name Manny so much? A mystery.Anyways, needless to say, now I'm thinking about the name Manny. What are your thoughts on it? Do you prefer it as a nickname for something else (like Manfred, Manuel... Emmanuel? Herman? Armand?)I gotta admit it's growing on me. It seems really cheesy, and I guess I like that in boy's names (like Rex, Guy, Ralph, Dennis, some of my other faves).

I know a Manny. It's short for Manuel. It's not one of the more common nicknames here. Manuel has tons of Portuguese diminutives - the two Manuels in my family are Manel and Nelo. (I also have a Manuela in my family who goes by Manu.)

I can't stand it. I don't like the character from Modern Family with this name and though I like manny from Ice Age, he's a mammoth. So..

Huh, funny because Emmanuel has been on my mind a lot. I'm not religious at all but I love the meaning.I think Manny is cheesy but I kinda like it.

My student Emmanuel's nn in Spanish is Mane (MAH nay), and this English only speaking classmates and teachers started calling him Manny. I guess that's better than them continuing to call me Mane. (one did in kindergarten, not realizing it was a nn, not a term of endearment) I prefer it as a nn.Handy Manny came to my mind too, not just Modern Family.

Sorry, but all I can think of is Manny the Mammoth from Ice Age. But if you like Manny, go for it! I would prefer it as a nick for Emmanuel or maybe Manfred.

Manny is great, as a nn. Emmanuel is my favorite formal form, but any of the ones you've listed would be great. Bonus points for using Manfred! Manny and Rex as siblings would be so, so fab.

It makes me think of Manny from Degrassi. :)I prefer Manley (as a nickname for Manuel or Emmanuel). But Manny is ok. I think it's kinda nice just on its own for a boy.

I don't like it. It reminds me of the kids show Handy Manny. It just seems cheesy like you said and also childish. It's not a name I can take very seriously if that makes sense.

I don't mind Manny, although I've only ever come across it on comedy characters (like the mammoth from Ice Age and the character from Black Books) so I kind of can't take it seriously!It's a bit too nicknamey on it's own but I really don't like any of the full names, so I wouldn't use it.

Oh my god! I was thinking about Manny today! I found an old plastic (supposedly severed) hand (complete with bloody wound) today in one of my moving boxes. I had completely forgotten about it but it's just perfect for Halloween. Anyway, I tried to remember what I had called it and Manny came to mind. I know I didn't call it Manny but I thought it was a pretty cool name. Since I'm also thinking of Manny today I quite like it at the moment. I like it as a name on its own but since I love, love, love Emmanuel and can't really come up with a good nickname for it, Manny is a nice alternative. I also love the name Guy!
