God it's one of those quintessential "high school douche-bag" names in my area. I'd say it's just about as popular (and equally dated) as Dustin and Justin. The vibe I get from both Austin and Dustin is "try-hard cowboy" - like the parents thought, "we're midwestern but we want to appear more tough and southern so let's give out boy a real 'rough and tumble' sort of name" - but really either choice just sounds more rhinestoned than rugged
