[Opinions] Babette

It reminds me of either someone's spoiled poodle or a middle-aged woman with one too many facelifts.

I dislike this extremely. The "bab" sound is very unattractive. I've never liked Barbara either, but the nickname Babs is infinitely worse. The "bab" sound makes me think of insane asylums and drooping breasts. Anyway, Babette is no better than Babs.
I think Betsy as a nickname for Barbara is counter-intuitive and quite a stretch.

It reminds me of the character on Gilmore Girls. Blonde, busty, matronly.
Babs is kind of cute, but I have to be honest and say that Babette sounds absolutely ridiculous to me. It sounds like something you'd name your kid when you didn't know what to name her. "She's a baby...let's call her babe...Babette!" I know it's pronounced BA-bet not BAY-bet, but that still doesn't help. I'd only accept the name if the person were French.
Maybe I'm in the minority because I've never actually met a Babs in real life, but it doesn't really sound dated to me. I wish I could think of something other than Barbara as a full name, but I can't.

I totally love Babette. It is red-hot like pizza supper. I hardly even get a dated vibe from it at all. It's like Lola - timelessly cheeky. But the thing about Babette is that it's not some empty-headed harlot of a name. It's got a theatrical intellect behind it. Puts me in mind of an archly beautiful stage actress of the early 20's who worked her way up from obscurity in a small town.
I also like the nn Babs for Blanche, if you're interested in that idea!

I agree with that vibe.
Wrong place, sorry. This should be a response to the OP.
I didn't think I would ever like the name Babette until I saw a movie set in WWII France. One of the characters was named Babette and I was smitten. I don't know how well it would translate into the modern world, but I'm all for names being revived. And the nn Betsy is to die for cute. Clever you. :-)
Oh, and if you haven't read or seen "Babette's Feast" you're in for a treat.

I think it is very cute and cheerful!. It sounds original to my ears and that's a good thing and I think if you like it, there must be a reason why. Also it sounds like an actress from a movie or a singer, there could be a revival, why not ? Fashions change all the time.
Far too dated, it doesn't even sound like a name to me
