Not long after AnneMarie and Janelle adopted Lex Gavin locally, the couple found that they were no longer in love, and that they were simply too stressed by Lex's many needs to be together, and happy. AnneMarie took sole custody of Lex, as she had been offered a job abroad, and was in a better position to provide the care he would always require.
Janelle and AnneMarie remained on good terms, and parted with a minimum of fuss, not wanting to upset Lex. Janelle concentrated on her work, not looking to get into another relationship straight away. A close friend from high school, Noémi, offered support and companionship, and the two women re-ignited a spark long lost from their teenaged years.
Janelle and Noémi eventually moved in together, with Noémi's four year old daughter, Petra. Petra immediately took to Janelle, and the three have become something of a family together. Janelle isn't eager to rush in to anything, especially with Petra to consider, but she is very happy.
