Mara was devastated when her friend Emily died after battling cancer for almost a year. The two friends had talked about the possibility of Ben and Mara adopting Emily's children. The children have called Mara "auntie" since they were little, and adore spending time with her and Ben.
Ben and Mara know it won't be easy, especially because they are young, but they love both children very much and will do whatever is necessary to take proper care of them.
